Faith Independent Baptist Church was born with the leading of God, through the heart of Michael T. Gjefle. Pastor Gjefle was saved out of sin and religion at the age of 20, in June of 1978 during a bible school program at Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta, WI. After coming to know Jesus as Savior, he continued to attend Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Gjefle entered Maranatha Baptist Bible College in 1978 where he met his wife, Tammy. He graduated in 1984 with a burden to take the Word of God back to his friends and family. In Mark 5:19 the Bible says "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee". He and Tammy Leatherberry were married in September of 1985 and started this church in 1986. The church first met in the basement of the Ontario Public Library for 4 weeks, then moved to the library of the old Ontario Grade School for 14 months, at which point the church was able to purchase a house west of Ontario, where services were held for 9 years. When the house became too small it was sold and services were once again held at the vacant grade school for 2 1/2 years, until God led to purchase a parcel of land and build a new building on the east side of Ontario, which is now our present location. God has wonderfully blessed Pastor and Mrs. Gjefle with 8 wonderful children, and a church family that loves the Lord and His Word the Bible. Supported by his faithful wife and friend Tammy, Pastor Gjefle continues to be pastor and farms, raising sheep and cattle, as well as making maple syrup for these past 25 years.
